Taiwan Outbound Departure Statistics for May 2023


- 877,833 Taiwanese went abroad in May 2023, increasing 1824.99 % from the same period of 2022 when 45,602 people went abroad.
- The top destination for outbound travellers in May 2023 was Japan, followed by China, Korea, Vietnam and Thailand. Japan has the highest outbound travel destination rate, rising 10725.54 % from the same period of 2022.

In May2023, Taiwan had 516,396 inbound visitors, increasing 1490.57% from the same month of 2022.

DGBAS Latest Economic Indicators for May 2023

- There were 11.50 million people employed and 412,000 unemployed in May, resulting in an unemployment rate of 3.46%, which was 3.50% after seasonal adjustments. The labor participation rate was 59.13%.
- In April 2023, the average regular wage for employed workers was NT$45,363, which had 0.16% decreasing month-over-month and 2.27% growth year-over-year. The average monthly earnings, including bonuses, overtime pay, and other irregular income, were NT$6,295. The overall wage was NT$51,658, which had 0.36% growth year-over-year. The recurring hourly wage for part-time employees was $203, a monthly increase of 1.50% and an annual increase of 1.00%.

Tigerair Taiwan Confirms New Flight Route from Kaohsiung
to Seoul Gimpo from Late-June after Uncertainty
The new flight route Kaohsiung – Seoul Gimpo planned by China Airlines, Tigerair Taiwan and T’way Air for this summer has been suspended due to the protest from the local residents in Gimpo airport area. The protest for noise pollution made China Airlines and T’way Air have no choice but cancelled the ticket selling. However on 19th June, Tigerair Taiwan received positive responses from Gimpo, which confirm the flight route will be operated from 30th June with 4 flights per week provided.

Vietnam to Extend VISA Validity Days for VISA-Free and
E-VISA Holders. Taiwanese Still Need to Pay Few
Thousands New Taiwan Dollars for Applying VISAs
The Vietnamese government has agreed to extend visa validity days for visa-free and e-visa holders. However Taiwanese travellers still can’t apply for the e-visa. Thus apart from travelling with groups, individual travellers with Taiwan passport who plan to go to Vietnam have to spend few thousands dollars on travel agency for applying for the visa.

Another country opens the “Automated Customs Clearance” gate for Taiwan! From April, the Singapore government announced travellers with Taiwan passport can use automated lanes and go through the e-gate without registration in advance.

Indonesia Officially Cancelled VISA-Free policy for 159 Countries Including Taiwan.
Here are the Latest Entry Regulations
Before Covid, Taiwanese could travel to Indonesia with visa-free benefit. However the policy has been suspended due to the pandemic. The Indonesia government made the announcement of cancelling the visa-free policy for 159 countries including Taiwan. Hence the visa-on-arrival documents will need to be provided from Taiwanese travellers when entering Bali and Jakarta.

Ad Saturation? Video Ads are Coming to Ubers: Drivers and Riders Will Receive Targeted Video Ads During Trips
According to the Wall Street Journal, Uber is taking its goal of growing its advertising business as the key development. Mark Grether, Vice President and general manager of Uber Technologies’ advertising division, says the riders will encounter ads on Uber’s app while waiting for pickup and during rides. In the near future, selected Uber cars will have tablets installed to auto-play ads. On Uber Eats, ads will display while customers wait for their deliveries. The company plans to introduce full-length videos ads across a variety of its platforms for the first time.

This year’s report reveals new insights about digital news consumption based on a YouGov survey of over 93,000 online news consumption in 46 markets covering half of the world’s population. It also looks on media news brand trust scores, news resources and users’ device. The results shows Yahoo! News is the leading online news media in Taiwan. Since 2017, when Taiwan was first included in the survey, Yahoo! News has always been the first choice in the digital media in Taiwan.
