Taiwan Outbound Departure Statistics for June 2023


- 1,131,234 Taiwanese went abroad in June 2023, increasing 1591.69 % from the same period of 2022 when 66,870 people went abroad.
- The top destination for outbound travellers in June 2023 was Japan, followed by China, Korea, Vietnam and Thailand. Japan has the highest outbound travel destination rate, rising 9448.46 % from the same period of 2022.

In June2023, Taiwan had 509,693 inbound visitors, increasing 1225.46% from the same month of 2022.

DGBAS Latest Economic Indicators for June 2023

- There were 11.51 million people employed and 417,000 unemployed in May, resulting in an unemployment rate of 3.49%, which was 3.45% after seasonal adjustments. The labor participation rate was 59.17%.
- In May 2023, the average regular wage for employed workers was NT$45,484. The overall wage was NT$55,099.The recurring hourly wage for part-time employees was $178.1.

Survey Results Reveals Taiwanese to be the Top 1 Travellers Craving for Food in the Asian-Pacific Area. 70%of the People are Keen to Travel Even Without Enough Budget
Booking.com’s “2023 Asia-Pacific Travel Confidence Index” survey results show that Taiwan travellers’ pursuit of “food” ranks first in the Asia-Pacific region. However, it also reveals striking contradictions in the survey. Although Taiwanese travellers are worried about financial issues, nearly 70% still want to increase the number of trips and budget, showing a high degree of confidence in post-epidemic tourism.

The Tourism Industry is Actively Deploying More Resources
According to the tourism industry, in the post-pandemic world, luxury travel market is showing a 20% – 30% growth this year in comparison to the market in 2019. Hence, travel agents are actively deploying more resources for the luxury travel market.
The survey results from luxury travel leader Virtuoso shows the number of high-net-worth (HNW) travellers will be increasing 28.3% in the near 3 years with each traveller spending 5,729 US dollars (NTD 178,000) on a holiday in average. Thus, luxury travel products appear to create a highly potential market from its uniqueness and scarcity.

Taiwanese Spend Way More Money on Shopping When Travelling in Japan Than Any Other Countries With 38.4 Billion Dollars Spent in 3 Months. Here are 2 of the Most Favourites You Should Know
From January to June this year, the inbound visitors to Japan reached over 10 million with Taiwanese travellers ranking the second most common with 1.77 million visitors. According to Japan’s official statistics, the highest total spending for travelling in Japan was from Taiwanese travellers although the visitor number of Taiwanese wasn’t on the top 1. There were 173.9 billion yen (38.4 billion New Taiwanese Dollar, 14.4% from the spending) was spent on shopping in 3 months from April to June 2023 from Taiwanese tourists, which was way more than any other countries. Among the total spending, the top 2 expenses are shopping and accommodation with 23.3 billion in combination.

Meta launches Instagram Threads in a direct challenge
to Twitter
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, on Wednesday launched a new social media platform called Threads. Threads could be the biggest threat faced by Twitter, owned by multi-billionaire Elon Musk, to date. To create an account, users will have log in using their Instagram account. The application also gives an option to import bio information and followers from their existing Instagram profile. The launch of the new application by Meta comes as a strategic move to attract Twitter users unhappy with the recent changes on the platform.

Meta Verified Expands Coverage to Taiwan Content Creators, Strengthening Creativity for Global Content Creators
The Meta Verified bundle is now available to Taiwanese Facebook and Instagram content creators, Meta Platforms, Inc. announced Thursday 13 July, hoping to strengthen creativity and influence for global content creators with easier ways to manage and expand fan pages. Taiwanese content creators can now apply for the monthly subscription. Each subscription only covers one creator account, meaning that if a content creator is on both platforms, creators will then have to sign up for two authentication subscriptions per month.
