Taiwan Outbound Departure Statistics for September 2023

  1. 1,080,168 Taiwanese went abroad in September 2023, increasing 751.44% from the same period of 2022 when 126,864 people went abroad.
  2. The top destination for outbound travelers in September 2023 was Japan, followed by China, Korea, Vietnam and Thailand. Japan has the highest outbound travel destination rate, rising 4106.14 % from the same period of 2022.

In September 2023, Taiwan had 538,658 inbound visitors, increasing 688.46% from the same month of 2022.

DGBAS Latest Economic Indicators for September 2023

  1. There were 11.54 million people employed and 416,000 unemployed in September, resulting in an unemployment rate of 3.48%, which was 3.44% after seasonal adjustments. The labour participation rate was 59.21%.
  2. In August 2023, the average regular wage of all employees (including full-time employees and part-time employees of local and foreign nationalities) was NT$45,650, a monthly increase of 0.26% and an annual increase of 2.67%; bonuses and overtime pay and other non-recurring expenses The wage is NT$10,645, and the average total wage is NT$56,295, with an annual increase of 1.02%.

International Travel is Heating Up: Japan, South Korea and Thailand are the Most Visited Countries While 89% Acknowledging that Travel Expenses Have Increased

From 13th October 2022 to today (the 13th), it has been one year since the border reopened whilst many Taiwanese are traveling abroad. According to a survey by 104 Job Bank, the top destinations for working individuals are Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. However, compared to the pre-pandemic, 89% of working individuals feel that travel expenses have increased.

According to a survey conducted by yes123 Job Bank, since the border reopening on 13th  October 2022 until now, the proportion of working individuals who have “already travelled or are planning to" has reached 68.3%. The top 5 preferred travel destinations, with the option to choose multiple, are Japan (40.6%), South Korea (34.6%), Thailand (28.7%), Europe (24.5%), and Singapore (19.6%), respectively. As for the 6th  to 10th  places, they are USA (18.9%), Vietnam (17.5%), Canada (16.1%), Mainland China (14.7%), and New Zealand and Australia (14%). The survey also shows that for those who have “already traveled or are planning to," 88.8% feel that travel expenses have increased compared to the pre-pandemic, while only 11.2% feel that they have not increased.

Double Ten Public Holiday Saw an Upsurge of Travelling Abroad: The Daily Passenger Number in Taoyuan International Airport Increased 15% more in September Compared to the Same Time Last Year

Taoyuan International Airport Corporation announced today that the passenger volume at Taoyuan Airport in 2023 has reached 24.93 million people as of the end of September. During the National Day holiday, there was a noticeable surge in outbound travel, with daily passenger numbers increasing by 15% compared to the September daily average. In an afternoon press release, the airport company stated that the cumulative passenger volume at Taoyuan International Airport in 2023 had reached 24.93 million people by the end of September. The Double Ten Public Day holiday marked the last extended holiday of the year and saw a significant increase in outbound travel, with daily passenger numbers surging by 15% compared to the September daily average.

The Airline Industry is at a High Point with Record-Breaking

Q3 Performance

The Airline industry continues to benefit from high passenger load factors and elevated ticket prices. In September and the first three quarters, revenues reached new highs, with the third quarter achieving a historical record for single-season performance! EVA Air and China Airlines reported revenues of 16.401 billion and 14.906 billion New Taiwan Dollars in September, representing year-over-year increases of 44.84% and 24.17%, respectively. This surge is primarily driven by a more than twofold increase in passenger revenue, with both unit earnings and load factors significantly outperforming pre-pandemic levels.

STARLUX Airlines is Set to Launch Flights to San Francisco By the End of This Year with Chairman Chang Kuo-Wei Piloted the 4th New Aircraft Back to Taiwan

Starlux Airlines welcomed its fourth A350 aircraft, B-58504, on the 7th this month (Taipei time). The Chairman, Chang Kuo-Wei, inspected and piloted the aircraft back to Taiwan in person from Toulouse, France. The plane arrived at Taoyuan International Airport at 9:10 am today, strengthening Starlux Airlines as it prepares to launch its service to San Francisco and expand its North American network on 16th December.

The Tourism Industry Estimates That Flight Ticket Prices Will Return to Normal By Q2 2025 As Cathay Pacific Making the Key Impact

The largest-scale Taipei International Travel Fair (ITF) is set to kick off from 3rd to 6th November. Airlines have already taken the lead in launching their online travel exhibitions. Due to consistently high airfare prices this year, the special offers on flights and travel packages at the fair are particularly enticing. However, some consumers believe that airfare prices are gradually decreasing each season, so there’s no rush to book tickets. In response to this, senior figures in the domestic travel industry anticipate “limited reductions in ticket prices next year and estimate that it won’t be until the second quarter of 2025, after Cathay Pacific resumes its full route network to Hong Kong, that ticket prices will return to normal levels.”

Create Images From Texts: Google’s AI-Powered Search Experience Can Now Generate Images

Once you’re opted in to Search Generative Experience (SGE) through Google’s Search Labs programme, you can just type your query into the Google search bar. SGE can create a few images based on your prompt that you can pick from. You’ll be able to make Google’s AI-generated images from Google Images, too. As you’re browsing Google Images results, you might see a box that prompts you to generate images based on your query. However, Google has only opened registration for users located in the United States and primarily using English. Taiwanese users may not yet have access to Search Labs and SGE.
