Why are Taiwanese Crazy About Cruises?
Key Analysis from the Travel Industry Points to Novelty
Prior to the 2020 pandemic, Taiwan was already the second-largest source of cruise passengers in Asia, second only to China. From January to August this year, the cumulative number of passengers has increased by an impressive 192% compared to the same period last year. Various travel agencies are actively entering the cruise market, and the reason for the strong appeal of the tourism market, according to travel industry analysis, lies in the Taiwanese people’s love for ‘freshness.’
According to statistics from the Taiwan International Ports Corporation, the Keelung Port’s group passenger transportation had approximately 279,000 people cumulative passengers from January to August. Among them, international cruise passengers accounted for about 189,000, while domestic island travellers were around 90,000. With the resumption of international cruise operations and the recovery of domestic tourism, the increase is about 192% compared to the same period last year, reaching approximately 95,700 passengers. Keelung Port is poised to regain its status as the leading cruise market in Asia.
