Taiwan Outbound Departure Statistics for April 2024


- In April 2024, the total number of outbound travelers reached 1,347,523, showing a growth rate of 62.32% compared to the same period in the year 2023, which had 830,184 travelers.
- For April 2024, the top destination for outbound Taiwanese travelers was Japan, followed by China, Vietnam, Korea, and Hong Kong. Compared to the same period in 2023, China experienced the highest growth rate at 97.18 %.

In April of the year 2024, the number of incoming tourists to Taiwan reached 610,146, exhibiting a growth of 10.29% compared to the same period in the previous year (2023).

- In May 2024, the number of employed persons was 11.58 million, the number of unemployed persons was 400,000, the unemployment rate was 3.34%, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.35%, and the labor force participation rate was 59.20%. The four-week unemployment rate was 3.38%.
- By the end of April 2024, the number of employees in the industrial and service sectors was 8.421 million, with an average total salary of NT$53,871 this month.

Preliminary Customs Import and Export Trade Statistics for June 2024
1. Exports
In June, exports totalled $39.90 billion, increasing by 6.8% from the previous month and increasing by 23.5% from the same month last year; exports from Q2 totalled $114.73 billion, increasing by 9.9% from the same period last year. From January to June, the cumulative amount reached $225.03 billion, an increase of 11.4% compared to the same period last year (an increase of 16.1% when calculated in New Taiwan Dollars).
2. Imports
Imports in June amounted to $35.22 billion, a 12.5% increase from the previous month and a 33.9% increase from the same month last year; imports from Q2 totalled $97.55 billion, a 12.7% increase from the same period last year; From January to June, the cumulative amount reached $188.91 billion, an increase of 7.8% compared to the same period last year (an increase of 12.3% when calculated in New Taiwan Dollars).
3. Trade Balance
There was a trade surplus in June of $4.68 billion, an decrease of $1.33 billion compared to the same month last year; the trade surplus from January to June was $36.12 billion, an increase of $9.34 billion compared to the same period last year.

Accelerating Carbon Reduction in Aviation! Civil Aeronautics Administration Plans ‘Aircraft Sustainable Fuel Addition’ Pilot Program for First Half of Next Year
To achieve net-zero carbon emissions and accelerate carbon reduction in the aviation industry, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Civil Aeronautics Administration has launched a pilot program to add sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at airports in Taiwan. Taiwan’s CPC Corporation is scheduled to add SAF to national airlines for the first time at Taoyuan and Songshan airports in the first half of next year, accelerating the reduction of carbon emissions by national airlines. The first batch of qualified fuel is expected to be imported in the first half of 2025.

Vietnam Takes the Lead in Southeast Asian Tourism for Taiwanese Travelers; Thailand Extends Visa-Free Policy to Compete for the Top Spot
Thailand has long been the top choice for Taiwanese travelers visiting Southeast Asia. However, in 2019, Vietnam surpassed Thailand to take the leading position. To win back Taiwanese tourists, Thailand introduced a six-month visa-free policy starting November 10 last year, and yesterday (7th) announced the extension of this policy for another six months, until November 11. Whether Thailand can reclaim the top spot this year remains to be seen.
