Taiwan Outbound Departure Statistics for May2024


- In May 2024, the total number of outbound travelers reached 1,360,781, showing a growth rate of 55.02% compared to the same period in the year 2023, which had 877,833 travelers.
- For May 2024, the top destination for outbound Taiwanese travelers was Japan, followed by China, Korea, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. Compared to the same period in 2023, China experienced the highest growth rate at 77.93%.

In May of the year 2024, the number of incoming tourists to Taiwan reached 581,748, exhibiting a growth of 12.66% compared to the same period in the previous year (2023).

- In June 2024, the number of employed persons was 11.59 million, the number of unemployed persons was 406,000, the unemployment rate was 3.39%, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.34%, and the labor force participation rate was 59.25%. The four-week unemployment rate was 3.44%.
- In May, the average regular salary for all employed workers (including both domestic and foreign full-time employees, as well as part-time employees) was NT$46,451, representing a monthly increase of 0.30% and an annual increase of 2.77%.

Preliminary Customs Import and Export Trade Statistics for June 2024
1. Exports
In July, exports totaled $39.94 billion, a 0.1% increase from the previous month and a 3.1% increase compared to the same month last year (an 8.2% increase when calculated in New Taiwan Dollars). Cumulative exports from January to July reached $264.95 billion, representing a 10.0% increase compared to the same period last year (a 14.8% increase when calculated in New Taiwan Dollars).
2. Imports
In July, imports totaled $35.10 billion, a 0.3% decrease from the previous month but a 16.2% increase compared to the same month last year (a 21.9% increase when calculated in New Taiwan Dollars). Cumulative imports from January to July reached $224.02 billion, representing a 9.0% increase compared to the same period last year (a 13.7% increase when calculated in New Taiwan Dollars).
3. Trade Balance
There was a trade surplus in July of $4.83 billion, a decrease of $3.68 billion compared to the same month last year; the trade surplus from January to July was $40.93 billion, an increase of $5.64 billion compared to the same period last year.

Aviation Giants Welcome New Fleet, Boosting Long-Haul Competitiveness

Post-pandemic First: “155 Mainland Participants at Travel Expo”! Tourism Industry: Good News Amid Tense Relations
The 2024 Taipei Summer International Travel Expo and the Cross-Strait Taipei Summer Travel Expo kicked off today (12th) at the Taipei World Trade Center, Hall 1, and will run for four consecutive days. One major highlight is the participation of 155 people from mainland China, including officials and tourism industry representatives from 12 provinces and cities such as Anhui Province and Chongqing City. The tourism industry has noted that this is the first large-scale cross-strait travel expo since the pandemic, and it is particularly good news amid the current tense cross-strait relations. They also hope the government will soon lift the ban on tour groups.

Taiwanese Travelers Visa-Free to Thailand, Stay Extended to 60 Days Starting July 15
From May 11 to November 11, Taiwanese travelers can visit Thailand visa-free and stay for up to 30 days. Today, the Thai Minister of Interior officially signed a document allowing travelers from 93 countries and regions, including Taiwan, to stay in Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days starting from July 15.
