Taiwan Outbound Departure Statistics for June 2024

  1. In June 2024, the total number of outbound travelers reached 1,566,852, showing a growth rate of 38.51% compared to the same period in the year 2023, which had 1,131,234 travelers.
  2. For June 2024, the top destination for outbound Taiwanese travelers was Japan, followed by China, Korea, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. Compared to the same period in 2023, Hong Kong experienced the highest growth rate at 76.21%.

In June of the year 2024, the number of incoming tourists to Taiwan reached 571,510, exhibiting a growth of 12.13% compared to the same period in the previous year (2023).

DGBAS Latest Economic Indicators for August 2024 (Partial data based on June and July 2024 figures)

  1. In July 2024, the number of employed people was 11.61 million, the number of unemployed people was 415,000, the unemployment rate was 3.45%, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.34%, and the labor force participation rate was 59.40%. The four-week unemployment rate was 3.48%.
  2. In June, the average regular salary for all employed workers (including both domestic and foreign full-time employees, as well as part-time employees) was NT$46,486, representing a monthly increase of 0.06% and an annual increase of 3.00%.

1. Exports
In August, exports totalled $43.64 billion, a record high for any single month, representing a 9.3% increase from the previous month and a 16.8% increase compared to the same month last year (an 20.3% increase when calculated in New Taiwan Dollars). Cumulative exports from January to August reached $308.57 billion, representing a 10.9% increase compared to the same period last year (a 15.5% increase when calculated in New Taiwan Dollars).

2. Imports
In August, imports totalled $32.14 billion, an 8.4% decrease from the previous month but a 11.8% increase compared to the same month last year (a 15.2% increase when calculated in New Taiwan Dollars). Cumulative imports from January to August reached $256.12 billion, representing a 9.3% increase compared to the same period last year (a 13.9% increase when calculated in New Taiwan Dollars).

3. Trade Balance
There was a trade surplus in August of $11.49 billion, an increase of $2.89 billion compared to the same month last year; the trade surplus from January to August was $52.45 billion, an increase of $8.55 billion compared to the same period last year.

The Aviation Industry Is Poised for Takeoff

Cathay Pacific, which was ranked 3rd in the “2024 World’s Best Airlines" by AirlineRatings.com and 5th in the “2024 World’s Top 100 Airlines" by SKYTRAX, announced its financial report for the first half of 2024 last week (August 8th). Post-pandemic travel has integrated the concept of “sustainability." Unstoppable Travel Fever; Continued Deficit in Inbound and Outbound Tourism Numbers

After three years of COVID-19 restrictions that kept people in Taiwan, the post-pandemic era has seen a surge in overseas travel among Taiwanese travelers.
